Nine More Are On Their Way
by Race Committee, July 10th, 2016
The clouds parted, the sun came out and Division 2 of 2016 Vic-Maui got underway. While there was a tantalizing breeze about 100 metres away from the Start Line, the curmudgeons on the Race Committee left the fleet to eke their way towards it after the starting horn. A "guns blazing" start it was not.
Mark Malice's Beneteau 40.7 Kraken had a starting strategy to stay on the line, but Jim Innes on Red Sheilla, a Beneteau 49 was first past the Committee Boat and leading a number of boats off toward the breeze and Race Passage. The outlook was for a building westerly wind this afternoon which should get the fleet down Juan de Fuca Strait in good order - an advantage of the 7 starters from Saturday who had to ghost their way to Cape Flattery overnight.
