Offshore First Aid:
The main objective of this course is to provide training suitable for sailors planning to participate in offshore races or passages which meet the criteria for World Sailing's Offshore Special Regulations Category 1.
This 2.5 day course includes the content typically covered in a Standard First Aid or Marine Basic First Aid course, plus extended material, and meets or exceeds the requirements of OSR 6.05 Medical Training that are applicable to Category 1. CPR-A training is included.
Content:
Anatomy and Physiology, Rescue Scene Assessment, Primary Survey, Conscious/Unconscious Choking, Artificial Respiration, Cardiovascular Emergencies, AED, Deadly Bleeding, Shock, Burns and Scalds, Minor Wound Care, Medical/Behavioral Emergencies, Rescue and Transport of Casualty, First Aid Kits, Enclosed Spaces, Infectious Diseases. Extended material includes telemedical communications (remote medical advice), hypothermia, offshore medical kits, and significant wound care.
Certification:
Participants who successfully complete the training will receive a first aid certificate valid for three years. Annual re-certification is recommended for CPR.
Instruction:
- Approximately 6-8 hours of instruction will be self-guided using course-supplied advance material.
- Approximately 14 hours of instruction will be instructor-led in the classroom.
Pricing:
- Early bird registration is $300.00 per person.
- Regular registration is $375.00 per person.
- Lunches are included.
- Prices are in Canadian dollars. GST (5%) will be added.
Terms and Conditions:
- Advance registration may be offered to eligible crew of eligible boats; the organizers may cancel ineligible advance registrations.
- More than 3 days before the seminar/class start date, you may transfer your registration to another qualified person, provided that you have notified the organizers by email to events@vicmaui.org and received an transfer approval email.
- More than 7 days before the seminar/class start date, registrations are cancellable and refundable; a 20% administration fee will be applied.
- 7 or less days from the seminar/class start date, registrations are non-cancellable and non-refundable.
