Blog from Kinetic

Alex has been keeping the crew in coffee. Bill's feature pancake breakfast, fit for a lumberjack and almost as big as one, was a big hit on its first re-run this morning. Courtesy of our sea-salty cuisinista, Brenda, we enjoyed quesadillas for lunch! We're probably eating better than some of the more spartan boats. On the other hand, they're lighter and quicker ...
Overnight, while the stars were out for the lucky watch, the North Star and the Southern Cross were both visible, a first for many of the crew. In the later cloudy darkness, Gaylean and Brenda performed a spinnaker trimming duet under Greg's demanding and specific and persistent tutelage. Emphasis on persistent.
Collingwood's athletic director Mr. Spiers would be delighted to know that Jeff has been winning the daily push-up contest against a hyper-fit and buff opponent. Jeff's offering throw the next match in the interests of crew harmony, but the skipper (a.k.a. his father) is counselling against hubris.
Reto is one of our driving stars, and while off-watch he has been catching up on his reading in his cave-like, under ventilated berth.
Despite, or perhaps as a result of, the lack of ales, we've been regaled with tales by our very own raconteur Vern, recalling lore from Vic-Maui's past and, shall we say, his other sailing "experiences". (Experience being defined as what you got when you didn't get what set out for.)
There continues to be a fair amount of small debris, and this morning we closely passed a blue fifty gallon drum which had a story written upon it in the form of a deep V-shaped dent. Ouch.
Kinetic sails along, flushing flying fish into the air on both sides of the bow, and seabirds swiftly swoop to feast upon flying fish.
Jeff and Adam have been "GoPro"ing the trip. The rest of us have been taking digital photos along the way. No volunteers yet on the future shore-side chore of editing the many hours of resulting footage and images.
Trade winds, ENE 15-22 gusting 25 - our boat speed is up again. Yee ha! Adam drives the boat like it is a stolen cop car, with only two wheels on the road at a time.
Kinetic is Goin' to Maui!
