CTV News interview with various Vic-Maui 2012 participants ahead of the start
July 5th, 2012
Victoria's Inner Harbour is abuzz with sailors preparing to race to Maui.
They are prepared for every eventuality, every hazard they may come across. In fact, safety is their first priority.
They are even prepared to be extra vigil with their look outs... just in case fast moving debris from last year's Japanese tsunami washes into their path.
The debris cloud is moving faster than was originally anticipated.
Organizers say they have added a new element to the daily roll call between the ships. First they report their location, the weather and then if they have come into contact with any significant debris.
The cruise category ships leave Victoria on Thursday with the racers taking off Saturday.
